We invite you to a unique horseback riding tour in one of the most beautiful parts of Spain. Asturias is a land of green hills, the wild Atlantic coast, and majestic mountains. On this trip, you’ll experience it in the best possible way – from horseback and surrounded by the peaceful Asturian landscapes.
Our base will be a charming, traditional Asturian house in a beautiful setting, and the routes will lead through hills, forests, beaches, and mountain valleys, all the way to the spiritual heart of the region – Covadonga.

Expedition

Upon arrival, you’ll stay in a restored Asturian farmhouse situated by the ocean. The first few days will allow you to familiarize yourself with the horses and the region – easy, scenic hillside trails await, with panoramic views of the Cantabrian Sea and the Sierra del Sueve mountains. One day, you’ll embark on a true mountain expedition: from almost sea level to the summit of Picu Pienzu, the highest point of the Sueve range. Along the way, you’ll encounter wildlife, free-roaming Asturian horses, and breathtaking views.The tour ends on a sandy beach – for those interested, there’s a short gallop in the water. The next day is a leisurely ride along the cliff coast and a picnic on the wild beach of Merón, known for its Jurassic rock formations and dinosaur footprints. The expedition culminates in a two – day trek inland toward the Picos de Europa Mountains. The routes lead through forests, river valleys, and mountain passes, all the way to Covadonga – a place of immense historical and spiritual significance. Riding a horse to the basilica, amidst monumental mountains, is a moment that will long be remembered.

After a farewell dinner, you’ll return to your base by the ocean, and the next day, full of excitement, you’ll fly home.

Day 1:

Group transfer by minibus from Asturias Airport to La Quintana de Vielgos, located in the rural hamlet of Argüero (Villaviciosa), on the Asturian coast. Travel time: approximately 50 minutes. Arrival before dinner. La Quintana de Vielgos is a beautifully restored, traditional Asturian house that can accommodate up to 16 guests in double or twin rooms. Guests have access to three living rooms, a large common area with a dining area, and a well-kept garden with mountain views. This is a place for those who value both privacy and a social atmosphere.

Day 2:

A leisurely morning after the journey. After a hearty breakfast, meet your horses and guide around 10:00 AM. Departure from the equestrian center located right next to your accommodation. An easy and very scenic route through the Bedriñana Hills. From the ridges, you can enjoy a 360° panorama: the Cantabrian Sea all the way to Gijón, the Villaviciosa Estuary, and the Sierra del Sueve Mountains from Picu Pienzu. In good weather, you can even see the Picos de Europa. Picnic during the tour (provided by a support vehicle). Return to your accommodation in the early afternoon, with time to rest before dinner. Route length: 8-10 km

Day 3:

Early start. After breakfast, transfer by minibus (approx. 40 minutes) to the town of Vega, where the horses are waiting. The route leads from almost sea level to the summit of Picu Pienzu (1,161 m above sea level), the highest point of the Sierra del Sueve (the last section is on foot). Ride through a nature reserve: forests, pastures, mountain paths, and spectacular views of the Picos de Europa and the Cantabrian Sea. Along the way, you may encounter wild Asturian horses (asturcones), red deer, roe deer, and long-horned mountain cows. Picnic en route. End of the ride on the sandy beach of Playa de Vega – a short gallop in the water is possible. Return by minibus to Argüero for dinner. Ride length: 32 km

Day 4:

Start at 10:00 AM from the equestrian center. An easy ride along the coast, passing quiet hamlets with traditional granaries (hórreos and paneras), pastures, and high cliffs. Picnic on the wild Merón beach, located at the mouth of the Merón River. Undeveloped, unspoiled nature. The beach is part of the Jurassic Coast of Asturias – dinosaur footprints are visible at low tide. Return to accommodation in the afternoon. Route length: 8-10 km

Day 5:

First Stage of the Tour to Covadonga Very early start. After coffee or tea, depart the resort; full breakfast en route. Breakfast stop in Villaviciosa (La Parra), then drive through Amandi and along the Valbucar River, through a legendary forest inhabited – according to legend – by Asturian mythological beings (Xanas, Trasgos, Cuélebres). Lunch around 2:30 PM in Anaya, overlooking the Sierra de Peñamayor. In the afternoon, drive through the Sierra de Llames de Parres, the Piloña River, and arrive in Llames de Parres, where you’ll spend the night. Dinner and overnight stay in double rooms with private bathrooms. Route length: 35-40 km

Day 6:

Start after breakfast. Enter Covadonga via the historic Camín del Príncipe, leading to the Holy Grotto, home to the statue of Our Lady of Covadonga (“La Santina”). Riding a horse to the Basilica of Covadonga is a unique and moving experience – monumental architecture nestled among the Picos de Europa Mountains. Then descend to Cangas de Onís, a town known for its Romanesque bridge over the Sella River. Lunch at a traditional restaurant outside the town. The horses return to the base camp by shuttle. Minibus transfer to Argüero (approx. 1 hour). Farewell dinner in La Quintana de Vielgos. Route length: 28 km

Day 7:

After breakfast, transfer by minibus to Asturias airport.
